Responsible for the design and development of voice, video, radio frequency, and/or data communications networks.
Installs and configures network hardware and software. Monitors and responds to network faults utilizing a variety of tools and techniques. Provides network troubleshooting and support. Administers network security per DISA and Army Risk Management Framework. Provides guidance and leadership to less-experienced technicians. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned. Participates in special projects as required.
The Network Technician must be able to operate without technical supervision, resolve complex hardware and software problems, and provide guidance and technical support to lesser experienced technicians.
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in network troubleshooting and support.
Comprehensive knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls, patch panels, copper/fiber cabling, and related network hardware and software.
Comprehensive knowledge of desktop operating systems and applications.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, and/or work experience.
6 to 8 years of directly related experience in network hardware and administration.
Must hold a current CompTIA Security+ CE certification or be able to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
CCNA or equivalent certification preferred.
This position requires occasional travel away from normal duty station. The incumbent may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends and or holidays. Position involves some periods of physical activity such as long periods of standing and walking during configuration for exercises. Regularly lifts, bends, reaches and moves items weighing up to 40 pounds or heavier weight with assistance. Candidate must comply with Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. Selectee is required to satisfactorily complete the appropriate training and earn the required certification for this position as outlined in DoD 8570.01-M, Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program.
