Job Description

As a Lead Server Virtualization Engineer you are the leader of an enterprise level Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Team responsible for directing tier 3 day to day server operations supporting new system delivery, change requests, proactive availability, performance monitoring, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and the resolution of system issues. Through proactive maintenance and monitoring ensures server uptime meets or exceeds established Service Level Agreements. Candidates must have strong communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment for a Department of Defense customer.

 

Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Managing assigned personnel, work schedules and after hour support as needed.
  • Managing and ensuring the ticket and change request ques are properly addressed in a timely manner.
  • Identifies and communicates Virtualization infrastructure improvements and initiatives and ensure the team is complying with standard procedure and protocols.
  • Able to exploit tools such as vCOPS, SRM, and vCM to manage and maintain VMware environment efficiency
  • Provide escalation technical support and issues resolution of Windows-based servers and virtual environment
  • Ensures service cell is following best practices for software packages and modifications via SCCM, login scripts, or GPO.
  • Ensures compliance with patching standards for UCS/Dell Servers, Security and system patches on all Windows servers.
  • Perform QA for procedural documentation throughout the lifecycle of the system
  • Assists and mentors team members on projects and servers preparations
  • Performs product assessments and serves a part of integrated project team as required
  • Participates in daily Change Management and Problem Management calls
  • Trains team members on operations' support procedures

Education

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.

Qualifications

Minimum 3-5 years qualifying experience:

  • Deploying and maintaining VMware ESXi environments/host and guest builds
  • VMWare vSphere
  • Virtualization and virtual system administration
  • Continued use of VMWare management tools (vCenter, VRealize Operations, VMware Configuration Manager)
  • Building scalable, high available, mission critical virtual infrastructures
  • Designing, implementing and managing multiple virtual environments and vlans
  • Experience or working knowledge of Disaster Recovery technologies helpful
  • Experience or working knowledge of Backup technologies
  • Multi-site environment experience
  • Knowledge of and experience doing a one-to-many configuration/deployment of SRM
  • Knowledge in conducting performance analysis for both the ESX host and their guests in the areas of CPU, Memory and I/O utilization
  • Disaster recovery
  • Knowledge of server technologies, and network and enterprise storage technologies (e.g. EMC, etc)
  • Developing maintenance and warranty requirements
  • Ability to establish performance models and validation techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
  • ReviewingTCNO/IAVA/NOTAM submissions for patching or firmware update requirements
  • Use of Remedy Ticketing System
  • Understand delivery of service concepts within the ITIL v3 framework
  • 5-8 years of directly related experience in systems administration and analysis.
